Homestead status

What is homestead status? 

Homestead status is for owner-occupied properties used as their primary residence. Homestead status may qualify the property for a reduced classification rate, reduced taxable market value, property tax refund, and/or special program eligibility.

When can I apply?

You must own, occupy and apply by December 31 to be eligible for the next calendar year's taxes.

How can I apply?

As of January 1, 2023, the homestead program is administered by Hennepin County and can be applied for online, in person, or by mail.

  • Online: Apply through the Hennepin County website
  • In person: Applications are accepted at any Hennepin County Service Center. In Maple Grove, the service center is located at 9325 Upland Lane. To schedule an appointment for in-person help, visit the Hennepin County website and search service center
  • Mail: Complete a paper application by printing out the document from the Hennepin County website. Mail the completed application and a copy of the deed (including the legal description) to:
