The Territorial Road area of Maple Grove is currently being planned for the future. While it is a relatively small area in size, the Territorial Road area contains an abundance of natural features, including Rush Creek, gentle slopes, and woodlands. Planning efforts are underway to determine the location for the future extension of Maple Grove Parkway, which will serve as the new connection to:
- Fernbrook Lane (CSAH 121)
- Rush Creek Regional Trail, which will eventually connect Elm Creek Park Reserve to Crow Hassan Park Reserve in Rogers
- A new city park
This area is also the birthplace of Maple Grove, featuring the original Maple Grove town site near Territorial Road’s crossing of Rush Creek. The area still contains a historic building, a historic monument, and a settlers’ cemetery. Territorial Road was one of the first roads built west of St. Paul prior to Minnesota’s statehood. Preservation of key historical features is an important component of the planning process.
The Territorial Road master plan was approved by City Council on June 20, 2022. For questions, contact Community and Economic Development Director, Joe Hogeboom, at 763-494-6045.
